I am about 5’3 and about 115 lbs. I work out 5 times a week or more and I have a fitness trainer once a week. I do cardio for about 30-45 min (usually the stair climber, elliptical, or treadmill) and on moderate intensity (for the treadmill I will run no less than 3 miles in 30 min). I also do weight training as well as a ton of core exercises on the bosu. I eat relatively well. I eat meat maybe once a week. A typical day of food would consist of a bran muffin and a small soy latte inthe morning. For lunch, I usually eat veggies (asparagus, string beans, eggplant, etc) a piece of bread and salad with soy dressing. For dinner I may have a scoop of white rice and a veggie dish or maybe a salad with balsamic vinegar and walnuts. This has been rather consistant the past 2-3 months. The workout regimen has been in play for well over 6 months. But for some reason, the past two weeks I have felt a little bloated and heavy. I stepped on the scale to see that I had gained 4 lbs.Why?

If it’s just bloating, which can cause a gain of several pounds on the scale, most likely, it sounds like you aren’t drinking enough water. Your fiber intake sounds GREAT. But if there isn’t enough water for the fiber to grab onto to help it get through the digestive tract, it gets stuck in your intestines, thus causing bloating. With all that fiber and exercise, your water needs are probably higher than your intake. Try adding a few extra glasses a day, and give it asbout a week. If it doesn’t help you may want to ask your doctor, because I don’t think it’s fat weight gain.

muscle ways more then fat, the weight you gained after your work out was most likely muscle, dont worry about it…if you are concerned about how you look worry more about firming up what you have then losing weight
I don’t have answers but I am going through the same thing. I quit smoking 2 weeks ago, when I quit I started exercising (biking 10 miles in 30 min and running 3.5 miles per day) and really watching the calories that I eat. I am tracking everything on fitday.com. I should be loosing 2.8 pounds per week but instead I have gained 5 pounds. It just needs to be about something other that the scale. I am guessing that in 60 days my weight will be down. It has to be. I am going to keep it up and ignore the scale, it is lying to me. I know that I am healthier now than two weeks ago. I feel my core getting stronger, the miles are easier. Just keep up the healthy eating and exercise…It has to be better , right?
You may not be getting enough calories for your activity level. Your body could be in starvation mode. I’d throw a couple of snacks in there, like a handful of peanuts. It’s important to keep your blood sugar steady throughout the day, and protein is great for that.

You’ve gained muscle, which in turn leads to a higher metabolism. Have faith! Give it a little time for the muscle to do its job. Added muscle is the best, long-term method to lose fat.
