Just moved to Chicago a few months ago. I’m starting to feel out of touch with spirituality and living a peaceful life. Part of the issue is that I have a low (starting out) salary right now and am also working 60-80hrs/week so find it hard to attend something regularly. However, I really want to become more involved with something spiritual around Chicago (not necessarily religious, but spiritual). How do I do that?
Thanks!

I have had Catholics, Southern Baptists, Buddhists and Jews tell me either their parents took the whole family there regularly, they went themselves or they took their families there simply because it felt so peaceful and spiritual. There is a similar one in India and that one is the most visited edifice in the world. One thing unusual is they will not accept donations even if you try to talk them into taking one.

I live in Jefferson Park, and if you’re looking for spirituality you’re in bad shape. Chicago has the same kind of problems with organized religions that That most cities do. Religious groups that are proselytizing for souls because it’s a business. That’s all it is here in Chicago, another business. If you want spiritual fulfillment volunteer at Childrens Memorial Hospital on Lincoln ave in the Pediatric Oncology ward.
You might try searching the phone book in the yellow pages.
The first suggestion is to pray Psalms 51 every day. It is a prayer that God loves to answer. It is a way to feel that connection that you have lost. Pray for the Holy Spirit to lead you, give you understanding, peace, obedience to His Word, and salvation, before you open the Bible. With your hours it may be hard to go out to find God. Find a quiet park and take a private walk and spend time telling God what is on your mind and ask for wisdom. The walk is calming and out in God’s creation is a lovely way for hIm to reveal Himself to you as you pray in your heart or out loud. I also sing or hum out loud if I can or in my heart. Amazing Facts with Doug Batchelor has some great online Bible studies if you have questions. I also enjoy marking my Bible. I received a brand new KJV Bible and bought a box of colored pencils. The KJV has a lot more information that hasn’t been taken out like the NIV version. I mark light green for creation, dark green for Rest, dark blue for 10 commandments, light blue for baptism and new life, red for God and Jesus, orange for Second Coming Heaven and New Earth, purple for prophecy, brown for death, and black for Satan. Sometimes when a color is mentioned I underline it in the color mentioned. I use a yellow highlighter for things I want to be able to find quickly. I use a pen to write down other verses that remind me of the verse along side of the other verse. I have learned so much that way. This is a way to make God real in your life even if you don’t have time for church. I enjoy church as I share what I learn and others encourage me too. God promises to never leave or forsake you. No one comes to God except He sends you a personal invitation by way of the Holy Spirit. That you are asking means you have the invitation. May God bless you on your journey.
