   As a matter of fact, even a pen or mechanical pencil would alter the
   readings if you place it near the top of the Luo Pan or compass.

   i was gonna say the same thing that the metal must be causing this
   reaction, however everything has energy and feng shui is mostly dealing
   with good and bad energy so it is quite possible that the cell phone
   contains energy that can alter the current energy directions
